Covid rises in India as new variants detected, over 1,000 active cases reported

India has reported a fresh spike in Covid-19 cases with over 750 new infections recorded in the past week, taking the national active caseload to more than 1,000. Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi have emerged as key hotspots, contributing the highest number of new cases.

Kerala registered 335 fresh infections, raising its active case tally to 430. Maharashtra recorded 153 new cases, pushing its total to 209 active infections, while Delhi reported 99 cases in the past week, bringing its active count to 104. Other states like Gujarat (83), Karnataka (47), Uttar Pradesh (15), and West Bengal (12) have also recorded smaller clusters.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured citizens that the situation is under control. “There is no need to panic. Our hospitals are well equipped, and an advisory has already been issued,” she stated.

Meanwhile, two new Covid variants — NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 — have been detected in India. These have been classified by the World Health Organization as “Variants Under Monitoring.” The Union Health Ministry emphasized that most of the current cases are mild and being treated at home.
